The case for each
Pac-Man: Namco's 1980 arcade game: a yellow circle eating dots in a maze while four ghosts, Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde, give chase. The best-known arcade game of all time and the first video game mascot.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Sega's 1991 Mega Drive (Genesis) platformer: a blue hedgehog racing through Green Hill Zone to stop Dr. Robotnik. Built to beat Mario, and it made Sega a real rival to Nintendo.
