The case for each
Alien: Ridley Scott's 1979 film: the crew of the cargo ship Nostromo brings aboard a creature designed by H. R. Giger, and Sigourney Weaver's Ripley becomes one of cinema's great heroes. In space no one can hear you scream.
The Thing: John Carpenter's 1982 remake: Kurt Russell and the men of an Antarctic research station face a creature that can imitate any of them, so nobody can trust anybody. A flop on release, now a landmark of practical effects.
