The case for each
The Conjuring: Nine years later James Wan went the other way: old-fashioned ghost-story scares instead of gore, in a Rhode Island farmhouse investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Saw: James Wan's 2004 debut, written with Leigh Whannell: two men wake up chained in a filthy bathroom, pawns in the Jigsaw killer's game. Made for about a million dollars, it started one of horror's longest franchises.
